Canada's Scotiabank is to pilot a single card programme which will give consumers access to credit, electronic purse, loyalty programmes and other services using microchip technology. The bank has teamed up with the six partners of Solstice Alliance, a global smart card project.
Albert Wahbe, chairman and CEO of e-Scotia and executive vice-president, electronic banking, Scotiabank, says: "The Scotiabank solution will give customers greater control by allowing them to add and delete card services at their discretion."
The EMV-compliant pilot programme will be launched early next year in the region around Barrie, Ontario and more than 12,000 Scotiabank customers will participate.
Scotiabank claims to be the first company in Canada to review the applicability of international and open platform standards.
