Hackers nab personal details of 1.3m Orange France customers

French telco giant Orange says that thieves made off with the personal information of 1.3 million customers last month but that payment data was not taken.

Names, dates of birth, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of French customers were all compromised in the data breach, says Orange. Although bank account and card information was not taken, the telco is warning customers to watch out for phising e-mails, texts and phone calls.

Already, some people have taken to Facebook to say that they have been asked for financial details, presumably by phishers masquerading as Orange.

The breach comes just two months after hackers stole data from 800,000 Orange customers via the firm's 'My Account' Web site page.

The security failures come as Orange tries to convince customers to trust it with its money. The telco has been aggressively pushing into the financial services sector, launching its Orange Cash mobile money service in various European markets over the last few months.
