The CommBank Kaching QR code reader will enable customers to pay bills using the iPhone's camera. Customers scan their QR biller code and the payment details will be automatically populated ready for payment via Bpay, which is used by 75% of the Australian public.

Australian Power & Gas and Sydney Water are among the first major utilities to announce they will provide QR codes on bills, statements and notices, "with many more billers expected to follow over the coming months", says the bank.

The bank is also replicating one of the most popular features from its online NetBank service with the introduction of card PIN change and activation functionality within Kaching. The capability, available initially for iPhone and later Android, is a mobile baking first for Australian consumers claims the bank.
