V.me lets registered users make secure online payments to participating merchants with just a username and password, removing the hassle of having to enter card account number, bill-to and ship-to information for every transaction.

As well as the BBVA trial, the service is set to launch in the UK this autumn and France soon after. In the States, PNC and US Bank have also both committed in recent days.

David Puente, business development director, BBVA Spain and Portugal, says: "At BBVA we have seen a rapid growth in e-commerce demand from our customers. We have been working closely with Visa to develop the V.me service and we are pleased to become the first partner to launch the V.me digital wallet in Spain."
