Developed by Formicary and Float specifically for Aviva, the Solar PlayBook app is being tested by advisers who make technical risk assessments of commercial premises.

The technology enables them to easily record data on their tablets on site as they carry out assessments, eliminating the need to return to their offices later.

Commenting on the app, Paul Heybourne, senior project manager, Aviva, says: "It brings improved workload management to our advisers, faster resolution times to our customers and higher calibre reporting for our underwriters."

A small group of Aviva risk staff are currently piloting the PlayBook app, which could then be rolled out to the entire 120-strong team next year.

It would be interesting to hear what Aviva saw as the advantages of the Blackberry Playbook when compared to other platforms, such as the iPad. Similarly how have risks with this selection been mitigated.
