Banksiel's first Stand-In virtual representative is scheduled to appear in August 2001 from the company's Web site. The AI application will act as a showcase for a number of online banking service applications - from Web greeter to FAQ responder to virtual teller - says David Harris, manager of online banking at Banksiel

He comments: "LifeFX's technology is a crucial element in our overall strategy, particularly as we integrate it into advanced online banking systems incorporating language-recognition technology and software agents."

The LifeFX technology uses photo-realistic, digital human faces, that are designed to interact in real time with Web surfers. It was originally developed for professional medical applications by the University of Auckland
