MasterCard, Garanti Bank, Gemalto, and Turkish mobile phone provider Avea will go live with a so-called 'BeaverTail' NFC antenna-equipped SIM card mobile payment service in Turkey on Wednesday, 8 December.
The service, which involved attaching a floppy antenna to a mobile phone SIM card inside the phone - will enable clients in Turkey to make contactless payments using credit, debit, public transit passes or by using bonus points from a loyalty-card scheme.
The adapted SIM cards can be picked up at participating Avea stores. BonusluAvea customers in Turkey will also be given digital coupons for gifts and discounts as part of the roll-out campaign.
Mehmet Sezgin, CEO at Garanti Bank says the bank had been using mobile stickers as part of its Tap&Go payments programme in Turkey, but wanted a better service to offer its "young customers".
Garanti Bank and MasterCard have a five year old 'experimental project' partnership for innovative payments programmes.
Garanti Bank's new mobile contactless service also relies on MasterCard's PayPass service for mass transit.
