IBM says the technology will enable HDFC to keep critical credit card processing requirements in-house while offering uninterrupted service to customers.

It will also eliminate server sprawl and the need for additional data centre investments and offer the option to migrate other applications, such as core banking, to System z mainframes in the future.

In addition, IBM says the system will improve customer service processes, with better connections to other applications leading to more features on self-service channels like the Internet.

HDFC Bank is the first commercial bank in India to adopt the IBM mainframe.
