Citigroup is looking to offload its 26% stake in Japanese online brokerage Monex Group, according to a report in the Yomiuri newspaper.
The troubled US bank has already sounded out several local banks about the Monex stake sale, Yomiuri claims.
The bank, which is also trying to sell its Japanese retail brokerage unit, Nikko Cordial, has declined to comment on the reports.
Citigroup's stake in Monex was worth about 15.3 billion yen ($156 million) as of Thursday's close.
As the financial crisis has deepened, Citigroup has been raiding its overseas assets in a bid to raise capital. The bank recently offloaded its Indian IT outsourcing operations and is reportedly looking for a buyer for its stake in Brazillian card processor Redecard.
