IsBank Customers can sign up for the application online and then download it to their mobile phone.

The system enables customers to access accounts, check balances, transfer funds and exchange currencies using their hand sets.

Pozitron says customers can also use the system to make credit card payments.

Commenting on the new service, Fatih Isbecer, CEO, Pozitron, says more people in Turkey use mobile phones than fixed-line service. At the same time Internet access in the country is still limited.

"However, the potential of Internet access through mobile phones is even bigger than the PCs due to widespread use of GSM technology," says Isbecer.

He says the IsCep application will also benefit customers who want to use online banking services but have limited Web access.

Earlier this week another Turkish bank, Garanti, launched its mobile banking service, which is based on Volantis and HP technology.
