State Bank of India orders 3000 NCR ATMs

ATM vendor NCR has won a contract to supply 3000 cash machines to the State Bank of India (SBI) in what it says is the single largest ATM order from a bank in the country.

NCR has been commissioned to supply SBI - the largest commercial bank in India - with 3000 of its Personas ATMs, running the vendor's Aptra software.

The deal includes installation and deployment services, including construction and maintenance of ATM sites, and on-going management and monitoring.

The units include a mix of full-function ATMs that can address routine transactions such as cash withdrawal, as well as advanced functions such as airline and railway ticketing, deposits and CRM-driven services.

The roll-out is part of SBI's expansion plans and a recent project to deploy ATMs across key railway stations in India.

Bob Tramontano, VP of self-service for NCR's financial solutions division, says: "We are extremely pleased to partner with SBI to assist the bank in maximising its reach, while enhancing customer satisfaction. The SBI order is the largest project of its kind in India."

This is the third ATM deal the vendor has won with the bank. In 2002 NCR inked an ATM and maintenance services deal and a year later the bank ordered a further 1500 units from the vendor.
