The security software combines Ingenico PIN-pads with an XFS-compliant extension of Nexus's Involve middleware product suite enabling the use of Chip and PIN for transaction banking in the branch. The vendors say the system obviates the need for customers to present additional proof of identity, such as a driving license, at the branch counter.

Nick Parsons, managing director, Ingenico – Northern Europe, says: "With the UK population now successfully migrated to buying goods and services from retailers with their PIN enabled cards, it makes perfect sense for banks to embrace this experience to simplify the customer verification process at their branches."

Ingenico, which numbers high street banks Barclays and HSBC among its clients, currently has 800,000 PIN pads in operation at retail Eftpos points across the UK.
