Brief: Mellon pilots talking ATMs

Mellon Bank is to introduce talking cash machines for visually impaired customers at 11 locations in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg.

The voice-guided feature enables visually impaired customers to insert a conventional set of audio headphones, similar to those used with portable radios and music players, into the ATM. The customer then hears spoken instructions on the location and position of keys for conducting basic ATM transactions.
