Barclays Bank is to undertake trials of the earthport Internet payment system. The earthport server-side wallet uses a bi-directional cash transfer mechanism to facilitate online payments and is currently being trialled by UK direct bank Egg.
News of Barclays' interest in the application comes as earthport announced the implementation of its E-Core proprietary businessware software at ABN Amro Bank where it is being used to support the Dutch bank's retail brokerage platform. E-Core enables legacy systems to interact with new delivery channels such as the Internet.
