State Street Corporation has completed the migration of its global office network to a dual-carrier, fully managed multi protocol label switching (MPLS) architecture.
The new network serves State Street offices and customers on a global level, incorporating eight hub data centres in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
State Street says it developed the MPLS system - which replaces a self-managed frame-relay office network - in partnership with MCI and AT&T. The new network is designed to enable the firm to sustain normal business operations during vendor outages.
Joseph Antonellis, CIO, State Street, says the new network provides "a delivery platform that greatly expands our capabilities and enhances our response to demanding business requirements, while creating greater efficiencies".
The company says it is also pertnering with Cisco Systems to deploy voice-over Internet Protocol (VOIP) system globally, completely replacing PBX and layering interoffice long distance, teleconferencing and ISDN-based video-conferencing onto the network.
