Lloyds TSB has launched a new mobile phone top up service enabling Pay As You Go customers to buy extra airtime at over 4000 of the UK bank's cash machines.

The service is available free of charge to personal customers and those Link cardholders whose banks support the new transaction. The participating mobile operators are Vodafone, Virgin Mobile, Orange, T-Mobile and O2.

Users key in a phone number to be credited and the top up value is deducated from customer accounts in the same way as a cash withdrawal.

Peter Martin, ATM director at Lloyds TSB, says: "Because it's done through an ATM rather than a shop, you can top up at a time and location convenient to you."
