The bank will use the software to support its imaging, electronic cheque presentment (ECP) and image exchange operations.

Michael Wandolowski, Harris Bank's North American item processing vice president, says the Vectorsgi product will allow the bank to enhance customer service while lowering costs as it prepares for greater participation in Check 21 related areas.

"Vectorsgi provides an end-to-end solution for image capture and delivery that fully supports the Bank's image initiatives," says Wandolowski.

Separately, Vectorsgi has signed an agreement to integrate New York-based A2iA Corporation's handwriting recognition technology with its imaging-related products.

A2iA's recognition technology can detect missing fields on a cheque, including the courtesy and legal amounts, signature, payee name and date. The technology also recognises the MICR line on the image itself, which aids in matching the image to the electronic data captured by the device.

Vectorsgi says its products, combined with A2iA's software, can swiftly identify cheques that are unusable. Sydney Smith Hicks, Vectorsgi's president and CEO, adds: "Poor image quality creates subsequent processing problems and limits the gains financial institutions can make in a Check 21 world."
