Betrusted takes over German bank-owned TC TrustCenter

Betrusted of the US has acquired TC TrustCenter, an Identrus-compliant purveyor of online authentication technology that was founded by Germany's four leading banks.

TC TrustCenter was set up by Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Bank and Bayerische Hypo-und Vereinsbank to deliver PKI-based authentication services for companies trading online. TC TrustCenter's identity card system combines major applications such as secure e-mail, secure VPN (Virtual Private Networks), digital signatures, and access control on a universal key.

The deal provides Betrusted with a state-of-the-art data centre, a team of approximately 80 employees and 3500 clients across Germany and Europe, including financial and industrial companies as well as government and public authorities.

John Garvey, global CEO of Betrusted says: "This deal will provide new offerings to existing customers and significantly expand Betrusted's PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) based smart card solutions."

The acquisition is the latest in an aggressive spending spree that has seen Betrusted take over Baltimore Technologies' PKI business as well as its OmniRoot and Managed Services business units, 90East, SecureNet in Australia and led to a counter-offer on Ubizen.
