The Industrial Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has begun installing more than 1000 Diebold cash machines and dispensers across its national branch network.
The bank will install most of the new advanced-function ATMs at branches in major cities - including Beijing and Shanghai - and coastal provinces such as Zhejiang. The bank will also add more than 100 units to its network in the Hunan province.
Under the deal, Diebold will provide training services to more than a thousand ICBC staff charged with managing the bank's ATM hardware and software.
Daniel Hu, managing director of Diebold, Greater China area, says: "Diebold's ICBC project team - formed with sales, marketing, manufacturing, support and service engineers - will work as a cohesive unit to ensure the new equipment will be operational for ICBC."
Hu says over 50% of the bank's annual ATM order was awarded to Diebold.
The vendor will also continue to work with ICBC to gradually introduce smart card applications at ATMs.
