Sun Microsystems is releasing a beta version of its Java Branch Controller which promises remote installation and legacy system support for retail bank branches.

Sun says the software can be integrated with legacy applications, teller systems and networked devices such as cash drawers and printers.

David Moore, global banking manager, Sun Microsystems says deployment of the device alongside the Sun Ray thin client system, enables firms to "efficiently bring legacy information to the fingertips of branch employees", while lowering total cost of ownership.
