PostBank initially deployed the product at its Hamburg office in 2001.

The bank will use now the system to capture and process more than 100 million documents annually, including new account applications and a range of customer correspondence.

Mark Lewis, Captiva's vice president of European operations, says: "Automatically capturing the information contained on incoming documents frees Postbank from slow and costly manual data entry processes."

As well as processing incoming documents, the software will also be used to convert the bank's paper archives into electronic content.
