Computershare acquires UK market data firm

Australian share registration and trading software house Computershare has acquired Reuters' subsidiary Citywatch, a UK-based provider of equities ownership data, for £4.35 million.

Founded in 1992, Citywatch delivers online share ownership information covering 99% of UK equities. The acquisition will be used to bolster Computershare Analytics' current investor relations, consulting and share ownership analysis business that operates in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

Chris Holleyoak, head of UK strategic business development, says: "The acquisition of Citywatch is part of Computershare's strategy to provide a range of investor relations services to our global client base...We believe there are many opportunities to enhance the existing Citywatch products as well as providing an excellent platform to extend our global shareholder data services into Europe and North America."
