TradeWeb recruits CME chief for European launch

US-based bond trading outfit TradeWeb Group has named Roger Jones as chief executive officer of its newly-formed European division TradeWeb Europe.

Jones was previously managing director, Europe, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and has held senior positions in the fixed-income divisions of Credit Suisse First Boston and Deutsche Bank.

TradeWeb Europe began customer trials of its euro sovereign debt product in October. The company expects a full launch of the system in the first quarter of 2001.

TradeWeb's European expansion comes three years after its establishment in New York. The company's US operations currently link 14 major bond dealers to more than 600 buy-side institutions. Over $2.5 trillion has traded on its network since 1998.
