Spain's Banco Sabadell has launched a service that enables customers to withdraw cash from ATMs using their mobile phones.
Users make the request to take out money via the Banco Sabadell mobile app, specifying the amount. They are then sent a code via text message which is entered at the ATM to complete the transaction.
In the UK, RBS and NatWest have introduced a similar service aimed at people who have forgotten or lost their cards, while PKO Bank Polski has also made cardless ATM withdrawals part of its IKO app.
However, in a neat twist, the Banco Sabadell service explicitly promotes the capability for customers to send the code on to the phone of a second person, effectively making it a person-to-person payments system.
