For the first time, more than 100 million iDEAL payments were recorded in one month and more than 1 billion transactions within one calendar year. Compared to 2020, the number of iDEAL payments increased by 28%. Currence's other online brands also showed undiminished growth last year. Online identification and logins with iDIN rose by 33% and Incassomachtigen (e-mandates) by 13%.

iDEAL MARKET SHARE CONTINUES TO INCREASE
The 28% growth in the total number of iDEAL transactions in 2021 is twice as high as the estimated growth in the number of transactions in Dutch e-commerce (+14%). As a result, the market share of iDEAL in e-commerce increased from 69% in 2020 to 71% in 2021. iDEAL closed the past year with 1.14 billion payments, for 99 billion euros. Turnover with iDEAL increased even more in 2021, by 41%.

More than half of all iDEAL payments relate to transactions outside e-commerce. iDEAL is also used to pay mobile payment requests (C2C payments) and traffic fines, municipal taxes and account balance top-ups, amongst others.

iDEAL QR CODES AGAIN MARCHING ON
Scanning and paying with iDEAL QR codes were again on the march in 2021, with an increase of over 50% compared to 2020. Large charities in particular, successfully used iDEAL QR codes, for easy and secure cashless collection. Last year 9.06 million iDEAL QR codes were scanned, leading to 5.95 million payments and donations.

iDEAL RENEWED
An entirely new infrastructure for iDEAL will be launched in 2022. This will make it even easier for payment service providers and merchants to connect to iDEAL, for consumers to order and pay online and for new payment functions to be developed and offered more easily, such as deferred and recurring payments with iDEAL.
