Internet and PC security specialist Prevx today announced that it is partnering with Sainsbury's Finance to offer the bank's 1.4 million customers free protection from online fraud.

By joining the Prevx SafeOnline Partner Programme, Sainsbury's Finance can now offer customers complete confidence when using the internet by mitigating the risk of online fraud attacks such as phishing, DNS poisoning, screen grabbing, man-in-the-browser and keystroke logging.

Sainsbury's online banking customers can now download the award winning Prevx SafeOnline technology completely free and ensure their personal information, including passwords and payment card details, is protected at all times across the internet. In addition, Sainsbury's Finance customers will receive vital information educating them about the importance of securing their online lifestyles.

"As a leading supermarket bank serving the needs of consumers up and down the country, we feel we have a duty to ensure people know how to stay safe when servicing their credit card and savings accounts online," commented Stuart McKeggie, Head of Credit Cards at Sainsbury's Finance. "Maintaining the trust and confidence of our customers is critical; so providing the best possible security we can, at no extra charge, is very important to us."

The Prevx SafeOnline solution is designed to let customers browse the internet securely. An added benefit is that it also helps to instill a sense of personal awareness of security by alerting online customers to threats to their PC.

With Prevx SafeOnline, Sainbury's Finance is taking a very different approach to addressing the online fraud issue. Firstly, the technology can be downloaded in seconds and is designed to complement a customer's existing Anti-Virus (AV) software, boosting security defences without affecting the performance of their PC. Secondly, customers receive free protection not just on the Sainsbury's Finance website and Sainbury's online store but also on all other websites they choose to protect, including social networks where people share personal information, thus helping to prevent identity theft.

Mel Morris, CEO at Prevx said: "In an age where many PCs are connected to the internet 24 hours a day, protecting the browser is absolutely critical. It's not just about protecting individual websites from cybercriminals. To truly combat online fraud, PCs must be protected on all websites at all times. There is no reason why the internet should be synonymous with online fraud - consumers should be able to browse safe in the knowledge that their personal information is still private. This is why we're delighted to provide Sainsbury's Finance customers with the technology and most importantly know-how to do just that."
