Wincor Nixdorf, one of the world's leading vendors of IT solutions for banks and retailers, will install its cash management solution for the automation of cash processes at the cash offices of the large stores run by the Swiss retail company COOP.

After extensive piloting, COOP has ordered 141 iCash systems, including software. In addition, Wincor Nixdorf will be responsible for maintaining the solution for a period of five years. Rollout of the systems will begin in February 2008 and be concluded in the second quarter of 2008. The order proves once again that retail companies are increasingly investing in the automation of their cash processes through innovative technologies.

The iCASH Back Office solution will map the process for removing and replenishing both Swiss Francs and euro banknotes at COOP's retail stores' cash offices. It consists of a recycling device that accepts banknotes, performs a forgery check on them, and can dispense them again, plus the application software. The solution cuts process costs as a result of automated counting and direct internal posting. Bank notes destined for disposal are removed from the cassette by the CiT operator.

COOP originally piloted the solution in eight stores over a period of six months. These installations will remain at the stores that piloted them, so that 149 stores in total will be equipped with the new technology by the time rollout is completed.

Cash management - from the checkout to the cash office and including removal and replenishment of cash by CiT operators - offers considerable potential for increasing productivity. With its product and solution portfolio, which can include process consulting and even assumption of total responsibility for cash handling, Wincor Nixdorf offers retail companies worldwide a modular solution for the entire process chain from the checkout to the bank.
