Nathalie Attar, 35, who is seven-months pregnant with her fourth child, became ill after a morning of cross-examination by Maccaba's QC. She has alleged that Maccaba sought to destabilise her marriage by offering her husband $1 million to leave her and that he had twice sexually harassed her.

Maccaba, who is suing rabbi Dayan Yaakov Lichtenstein for slander, has vehemently denied Attar's allegations.

Mrs Attar was due to undergo further cross-examination yesterday afternoon, but as the court reconvened the judge told the jury: "I am afraid I have to tell you that Mrs Attar was taken ill over the adjournment."

Adjourning the case for the day, he added: "What will happen with the remainder of her evidence frankly remains to be seen."
