Banking on wireless

Banking on wireless

Source:

A Datamonitor research primer which examines the attitudes of leading banks towards mobile banking and the steps taken so far to adopt it.

Despite widespread disappointment surrounding first generation wireless banking services, it is only a matter of time before mobile banking takes off. Until next generation wireless technologies become available, banks must focus on positioning wireless devices in their overall distribution strategy. European banks need to concentrate on maximising the potential of existing GSM-based WAP technology, while US banks must learn the lessons of Europe’s m-banking pioneers, believes Datamonitor.
In particular, the paper focuses on the rapid development of m-banking in Europe as, although US banks have also taken tentative steps towards rolling out wireless services, Datamonitor considers European banks to be very much the trailblazers in the m-banking space.
