Wagamama signs for V.me by Visa: MasterCard's MasterPass arrives in Spain

Pan-Asian restaurant chain wagamama is to begin taking online payments in the UK using the V.me by Visa digital wallet service.

Wagamama, which has over 100 restaurants in the UK, also offers a take-out service via phone, online, in person and, more recently, via the wagamama iPhone app.

V-me removes the need for consumers to enter their card numbers, expiry dates and other personal details every time they make a purchase with an online retailer.

Richard Tallboy, director of business development, wagamama, says: "As consumers become ever reliant on their 'digital wallets', we feel it is important to be partnering with an established and trusted brand like Visa. It is essential to us that our loyal customers enjoy a hassle-free and seamless take-out experience."

V.me by Visa began its phased launch in November 2013, with Nationwide Building Society the first issuer to offer the service in the UK. Wagamama joins 4000 other online merchants who have already signed up for the service.

MasterCard, meanwhile, has added Spain to the list of countries capable of accepting its own MasterPass digital wallet. eDreams, Logitravel and Atrápalo are some of the first Spanish online merchants that will add to the more than 30,000 worldwide merchants that already accept MasterPass.

After its launch in the UK, followed by recent announcements in Italy and Sweden, Spain becomes the fourth European country to offer MasterPass services. MasterPass is available in the USA, Canada and Australia, and was recently announced in Brazil.
