Cardtronics (NASDAQ: CATM), the world's largest retail ATM owner, today announced its United Kingdom subsidiary, Bank Machine, has made Shell U.K. service stations the newest additions to the company's roster of premier retail locations.

As part of a long-term ATM services relationship formed earlier this year, by the end of 2012 Bank Machine will install, own and operate more than 600 free-to-use ATMs at Shell U.K. company-owned sites

All Shell U.K. company-owned sites supported by Bank Machine will receive ATMs outfitted in Shell colors, and complete with on-screen marketing and receipt couponing functionality. Upon completion of the ATM installation project, Bank Machine will have consolidated multiple ATM services relationships for Shell U.K. Additionally, all Bank Machine-owned, Shell U.K.-located ATMs will be folded into Allpoint Network and its ATM locator immediately upon installation. Allpoint Network is a Cardtronics affiliate and operator of the world's largest surcharge-free ATM network.

"Backed by Bank Machine's reputation for integrity, reliability and attractive ATM presentation, Shell U.K. can move forward with confidence as we consolidate a number of ATM services relationships with Bank Machine," said David Wood, marketing manager, Shell UK Retail. "Equally, Bank Machine shares our commitment to make the ATMs free-to-use and thereby widely accessible to our customers."

"The opportunity for Bank Machine to install ATMs in hundreds of Shell U.K. locations represents substantial growth for Cardtronics' U.K. ATM portfolio, which opened 2012 with a fleet of 3,500 machines," said Ron Delnevo, managing director, Bank Machine. "Beyond the numbers, being selected and trusted with consolidating the ATM services offered by a premier global retailer of the magnitude of Shell is a validation of our leadership role among ATM service providers."

Editor's note: Cardtronics previously disclosed the execution of a contract with a major petroleum and convenience store operator in the United Kingdom as part of its 2012 first quarter earnings news release. Shell U.K. is the "major petroleum and convenience store operator" alluded to in that earnings announcement.
