Swiss banks have recently discovered the digital online vault - also known as Internet data safe - that is the traditional bank safe for the digital age.

This extension of current e-banking services provides customers with a digital safe deposit box that not only offers highly secure and confidential storage but also provides long-term preservation of important electronic data as well as a structured storage space that is always accessible.

The Swiss Internet data safe expert, DSwiss AG, has developed this leading data storage service, which can be easily integrated into any existing e-banking systems. Secure online storage is available to customers through any web browser from anywhere and at anytime. Security and privacy are also guaranteed, as neither the bank nor any third parties can access a customer's data, which is strongly encrypted and stored in a highly secure Swiss data center. Several Swiss corporate and retail banks will be offering digital safe deposit boxes to their customers from 2011.

"With the Internet data safe, also the electronic delivery and storage of bank documents can be solved in an easy-to-use and inexpensive way. For example, customers can have their account statements automatically delivered in PDF format to their data safes," commented Christian Schwarzer, Head of Business Development, at DSwiss.

Individuals have increasingly important numbers of valuable digital data. In addition to data with a financial value such as intellectual property, assets and business documents, there is the more emotive data such as photos. Research shows that people would like their bank to look after their important digital assets and banks are recognizing this trend by providing the digital online vault as a useful extension of their e-banking platform.
