Assimilate Technology announced today the release of the first official beta of their VersaFix open source FIX engine for the .NET platform.

This latest release includes a number of enhancements and fixes that improve the reliability and performance of the system.

"We're pleased to be able to transition the VersaFix system into its first official beta testing period," said CEO Russ Curry, "our experience over the course of the last alpha testing phase, which was conducted with several leading financial technology firms, was extremely positive and this next beta testing phase brings us one step closer to providing a compelling open source solution for developing FIX applications on the .NET platform."

The VersaFix system is licensed to the public under the terms of the GNU General Public License, and both source code and binary distributions can be downloaded from the tradebreaker.com community site for open source FIX development projects. The system also includes a code generator and cross-engine FIX data dictionary editor that supports both the VersaFix and QuickFIX data dictionary formats. The final release of the VersaFix system, slated for Q3 of 2010, will also include management and monitoring tools that will help firms maintain production systems developed using the VersaFix engine.
