Portware, Random Walk Computing and IBM today announced Portware on POWER, a new solution for algorithmic trading that combines Portware's Strategy Server and IBM System p entry-level servers with Random Walk's consulting and integration services.
The system is designed for financial organizations challenged by an exponential increase in market data, regulatory pressures and increasingly competitive markets where compute- intensive analytics and transaction processing are critical.
On June 27, 2006 in New York City, the firms will host "Algorithmic Trading: Optimal Solutions for Trade Capture and Revenue in Global Markets". The event will highlight the issues shaping the industry today and introduce new solutions and services that provide extraordinary advantage -- IBM Optimized Analytic Infrastructure for Financial Services, Portware on POWER, a significant advance in speed, reliability and cost-of-ownership, and Random Walk's services for high performance computing in global markets.
IBM, a leading solutions provider in financial services, has implemented Optimized Analytic Infrastructure (OAI) for global institutions in capital markets, banking and insurance companies. "OAI reduces cost and standardizes existing infrastructures by moving from systems characterized by disparate silos, into an open, distributed environment that affords a truly scalable analytic ecosystem," said Kevin Pleiter, IBM Global Infrastructure Solutions Sales. "Portware on POWER complements OAI exceptionally well. It provides extraordinary advantage to trading desks utilizing algorithmic trading for equities, FX, futures and derivatives in global markets."
"Portware on POWER combines Portware's algorithmic engine with the System p 510 running Linux or AIX to deliver outstanding levels of speed, availability and cost-of-ownership," said Dan Shea, IBM Director of Americas pSeries Sales. "POWER's ability to provide systems virtualization plus its ability to scale in response to market spikes makes it an ideal platform for algorithmic trading in compute-intensive environments."
The Portware Strategy Server is a powerful algorithmic engine designed specifically for high volume, high-frequency automated order management and trading. The ultimate in black-box technology, Portware Strategy Server allows users to create sophisticated, high-performance trading strategies and algorithms to completely automate all trading operations. The Strategy Server is optimized to process large numbers of orders and their associated message traffic at extremely high speeds. By pairing it with IBM's powerful System p family of products, customers can achieve ultimate performance while keeping total cost-of-ownership at a minimum.
"Portware is always looking to push the limits of performance," said Ary Khatchikian, Portware's Co-founder and President. "The work we've been doing with IBM and Random Walk has produced some fantastic results which we're excited to share. The pure performance numbers are exciting enough, but when you begin to realize the flexibility and scalability of Portware on Power, you really begin to see how limitless the possibilities really are."
"As the requirement for high-throughput, low-latency trading systems has migrated from the domain of equities marketplaces and agency desks to span across asset classes and the buy side, significant investment is being made in next-generation COTS and custom platforms," said Lloyd Altman, SVP of Consulting at Random Walk. "Random Walk has developed a Platform Due Diligence and Performance Optimization methodology to help clients ensure that investments in new systems meet or exceed expectations."
