Community Banking Systems (CBS), a provider of check imaging products and services for community financial institutions, has launched ePosit, a customer-focused remote deposit solution for community financial institutions.

ePosit enables an individual bank customer to electronically deposit checks without having to make a trip to the bank.

Through ePosit, remote deposit capture capabilities are offered to the average consumer, delivering the ability to electrify paper-based deposits from home. Only two things are required of consumers to utilize ePosit - a document scanner and a secure Internet connection.

"We live in a world that is rapidly becoming more and more electronic each day, but most of us still have checks from time to time that need to be deposited in the bank," said Sean Pennock, president of Community Banking Systems. "Today, the only real option other than traveling to the bank is to mail the deposit, wait several days until the bank receives and processes the deposit, and wait for a deposit confirmation or receipt. With ePosit, both the bank and consumers benefit from the elimination of mailed checks, unnecessary trips to the bank and the lengthy wait for deposit availability."

ePosit reduces the labor-intensive process of bank personnel receiving and processing deposits via the mail on a daily basis. Banks also stand to increase fee-based income by charging for the receipt of an electronic document.

"Community Banking Systems continuously works to make business easier for community banks and credit unions, and the expanded service that ePosit brings enables them to better serve their customers," continued Pennock. "With the rising costs of postage and gas, most customers will willingly pay the small fee for the ability to make deposits electronically."
