Transaction Network Services (TNS)(NYSE:TNS), a global provider of transaction and communication solutions, has acquired Romanian telecommunications company Connet-Ro.

The acquisition combines Connet-Ro's local telecommunications expertise and private data network with TNS' end-to-end transaction solutions. The new business will offer retailers, banks and financial markets the ability to unlock hidden cost savings and dramatically improve the efficiency of their transaction and communications infrastructures.

The TNS Romanian office will be based in Bucharest and will be headed up by Angelo Secchi, TNS' Country Manager for Italy and Romania, reporting to the Senior Vice President of TNS' European operation Robert Trehin, with local assistance from Connet-Ro's co-founder Paolo Tamburelli. Established in 2000, Connet-Ro is an authorised provider of telecommunications services with license issued by the Romanian National Regulatory Authority for Communications and provides a credible alternative to the national Romanian telecom service by offering voice, data and Internet services to European businesses looking for a presence in Romania.

Commenting on the acquisition, Robert Trehin, says, "Acquiring Connet-Ro is an excellent move for TNS and provides us with a strong foundation to rapidly launch our services into the Romanian market. There is enormous potential, particularly with those organisations that are looking to make the move to Internet Protocol (IP) to achieve cost savings and to securely exchange data globally."
