Barclays today announces the following updates to its Group Executive Committee, effective February 2023:

Mark Ashton-Rigby will step down from his current role as Group Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Executive of BX. Mark will continue to work with Barclays in a part-time advisory capacity.

Alistair Currie, currently Global Head of Consumer Banking & Payments, will take on the roles of Group COO and Chief Executive of BX, subject to regulatory approvals.

Vim Maru will join as Global Head of Consumer Banking & Payments, taking over from Alistair and joining the Group Executive Committee, subject to regulatory approval. Vim was previously Group Director of Retail Banking at Lloyds Banking Group.

All three changes will be effective from 1 February 2023. Mark, Alistair, and Vim will work closely together to ensure a seamless transition.

Barclays Group Chief Executive, C. S. Venkatakrishnan said:

“I am very grateful to Mark for his significant contribution in the role over the last three years. Since joining Group Exco in 2019, he has successfully driven the delivery of a multitude of major initiatives, a sustainable improvement in the operational effectiveness across the bank and upgrades in COO talent, through a period of unprecedented external change.

I have worked closely with Alistair and am keenly aware of his deep understanding of our businesses, organisation, and the perspectives he brings as a ‘consumer’ of BX. These skills, and his deep values, make Alistair an excellent COO for a large, complex bank like Barclays.

I’m also pleased that Vim Maru will be joining us as our new Global Head of Consumer Banking & Payments. He has extensive experience in UK consumer banking and will make a positive contribution as we continue to build on the excellent platform Alistair has built.”
