BB&T today said that its OnSite Deposit service has reached a significant milestone.

More than $1 billion in checks have been processed since the image-based service was introduced in March 2005.

The electronic deposit service, available through BB&T subsidiary Creative Payment Solutions Inc., allows clients to use a scanner attached to their computer to create a digital image of their check for secure transmission to BB&T and same-day deposit.

BB&T created OnSite Deposit to help companies realize the benefits of Check 21. The Check 21 law, which went into effect in October 2004, allows banks to convert paper checks into substitute checks, reducing the time and cost of moving paper checks between banks.

"BB&T OnSite Deposit gives our business clients an affordable, self- service option to make check deposits at their leisure, from any of their offices, from anywhere in the world and on their schedule, even nights or weekends," said Jean Voorhis, Treasury Services senior product manager.

"It eliminates most geographical barriers in the traditional deposit processes for clients with multiple offices and with distant locations. This milestone is a true reflection of how successful this product has been."

BB&T also announced that clients will have until 7 p.m. ET to prepare and transmit deposits to BB&T using OnSite Deposit, a time increase of two-and-a- half hours.

"We're constantly working on ways to enhance the product and the user's experience," said Harold Williams, chief operating officer of Creative Payment Solutions. "Giving clients more time to process and transmit their deposits to BB&T is just one more way we're doing this."
