ABN Amro to restrospectively collect cash deposit fees after ATM glitch

Source: ABN Amro

In January 2020, ABN AMRO enabled clients to make cash deposits at every Geldmaat (the new yellow ATMs jointly operated on behalf of ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank).

A small fee is incurred when you make a deposit at a Geldmaat, just like when you did it at an ABN AMRO machine. However, due to an error on the bank's part, no fees were charged for Geldmaat deposits for almost 18 months. The error was corrected in June 2021.

Clients will not have to retroactively pay back any fees related to deposits made in 2020. Those fees would have averaged a little above EUR 7.50 per client. In all, nearly 100,000 ABN AMRO clients made deposits at Geldmaat machines without being charged for them.

Fees that were meant to be charged between January 2021 and May 2021 will be deducted in October. Affected clients will receive further information soon. Business clients can look up an overview of their deposits on the October account statement, while retail clients can access the overview in the online banking environment or the ABN AMRO app.
