Worldline launches SoftPos mobile terminal

Source: Worldline

SIX Payment Services, a Worldline Group company, the European market leader in electronic payments, together with the Polish fin-tech SOFTPOS, is launching a new, most comprehensive SoftPoS mobile terminal on the market, which can be installed as an application on any mobile device with the operating system Android 8.0 or newer.

The pilot implementation of the solution, which will ultimately be addressed to medium-sized and large retail and service outlets throughout Poland, including those offering their products and services in other European markets, starts in May.

In the era of the coronavirus pandemic, more and more customers and merchants decide to use electronic payments. Thanks to the SoftPoS (Software Point of Sale) technology – a special software that, once installed on a mobile device, allows you to use it as a mobile payment terminal to accept contactless transactions made with both plastic contactless cards and mobile wallets – it may be easier than ever before. SIX Payment Services in cooperation with SOFTPOS, a Polish fin-tech set up by an experienced team of experts with proven track record in the electronic payment market, has prepared a pilot implementation of the SoftPoS solution for medium-sized and large retail and service outlets, including those operating not only in Poland but also in other European countries.

 Unlike solutions proposed by other companies, our software is ready to be implemented in all our client’s stores which operate throughout not only in Poland but all around Europe – explains Artur Żymańczyk, Country Manager Poland, Worldline.

The SoftPoS application is also much more versatile and accessible for all potential users. Unlike the pilot solutions implemented by other billing agents, it does not require the merchant to purchase new, expensive equipment - any mobile device, regardless of manufacturer, with Android 8.0 or newer (currently most phones in use meet these requirements) will be compatible with it. Neither is it necessary to buy any add-ons, which means significant savings for merchants.

 Thanks to the possibility of installing our application not only on a smartphone, but also on a tablet with Internet access, it is also a great solution for stationary stores that also offer – or plan to offer – mobile sales. Therefore, it will not be necessary to purchase an additional mobile terminal – Artur Żymańczyk adds.
 Our application has successfully passed the rigorous safety certification process according to Mastercard and Visa guidelines as well as the functional, performance and compatibility certification process carried out by an EMV authorised laboratory – says Grzegorz Nowakowski, SOFTPOS Sp. z o.o. - Initially, it will be possible to make contactless payments without PIN authorization, i.e. – after Mastercard and Visa have recently increased the limit for such transactions in Poland – up to the amount of PLN 100. After the soon-to-be-planned acquisition of PIN certification, it will also be possible to make contactless payments for higher amounts, after prior authorization with a PIN code on the merchant's device.

In addition to plastic cards, contactless transactions are also carried out using electronic wallets (e.g. Apple Pay), which enable the authorization of payment on the payer's device. SoftPoS will also accept payments made using contactless BLIK.
