Melanie Johnson, the Chair of Pay.UK and Rob Stansbury (Director and SID of Pay.UK Board) have announced that they will not be seeking a further period of appointment as directors of Pay.UK at the end of their current terms of office on 31 December 2020.

Melanie Johnson said:
“It has been a great honour to lead this organisation at such an exciting and important time for UK retail payments.

“I was appointed to lead the establishment of the new independent Board of Pay.UK to bring about the merger of three payment systems and to establish the new Board’s governance over the robust and resilient retail payment systems, which are critical to our national infrastructure. This has been very successfully achieved, delivering what was envisaged in the original report.

“We have made some significant progress on a number of aspects of the NPA (including for example Confirmation of Payee and Request to Pay) and the Pay.UK Board will take further key decisions now and in the autumn. With this phase now well underway, as we move into 2021 a new implementation phase will begin.

“Rob Stansbury and I have decided not to seek a further term of office beyond the end of December 2020 so the Board of Pay.UK will be able to benefit from new leadership and new perspectives.”

Paul Horlock, CEO said:
“Pay.UK has successfully achieved the immediate transformation of the retail payment systems, as envisaged by the Payment System Operator Delivery Group report, under Melanie Johnson’s effective and energetic leadership of the Board since 2017.

“Pay.UK is committed to delivering a world class retail payment infrastructure, while responding to the immediate priorities of the Covid-19 emergency. We are working with our partners throughout the payments industry to continue to deliver and protect the critical national infrastructure, and support the economy, for businesses and consumers throughout the UK.”

Pay.UK’s Board will be embarking on a selection process for these two vacancies.
