Payments Canada announced the appointment of Pamela Steer to Chief Financial Officer, effective June 10, 2019.

Ms Steer joins Payments Canada from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), one of the largest insurance organizations in North America, where she led them through a major transformation that resulted in improved financial operations. Passionate about mental health issues, Pamela is a champion for WSIB's first ever mental health in the workplace policy, which included mandatory training for senior leaders and she speaks on the topic nationally and internationally. She is also actively involved in mentoring young women and entrepreneurs. In 2019, Pamela was named Canada's CFO of the Year, which honours senior financial leaders who have made significant contributions to business in Canada with demonstrated quality, insight and integrity.

“Pamela’s experience and deep knowledge in corporate finance, strategic planning and business transformation is a major asset to Payments Canada as we move to implement a modernized payment system for the benefit of all Canadians,” said Gerry Gaetz, President & CEO of Payments Canada.

Payments Canada is leading a multi-year industry program to modernize the infrastructure, rules and standards that underpin payments in Canada. These improvements will strengthen our resilience, align with international standards and create a platform for innovation, enabling new and exciting ways for Canadians to pay for goods and services, transfer funds and exchange data about their payments. Supporting innovation at the customer level will be a faster, more flexible and secure payments infrastructure that puts Canada at the leading edge of payments.
