Onfido, a leading AI-powered identity verification provider, today announces the appointment of David Clarke as Chief Financial Officer to help the company achieve operational excellence as it continues its global expansion.

A seasoned CFO and industry veteran, Clarke was most recently CFO of digital payments company Skrill Group, which he led through their €1.1 billion acquisition by Optimal Payments. Prior to this, Clarke held the position of CFO at Lebara Mobile, and spent a decade as CFO EMEA at PayPal.

Onfido uses machine learning and facial biometrics to automate the identity verification process, enabling people to easily access online services and helping businesses to onboard trusted customers. Onfido works with over 1,500 companies globally across industries such as banking and financial services, e-commerce and the sharing economy, with customers including the likes of Revolut, Square, Nutmeg, Deliveroo and Babylon. Headquartered in London, the company also has offices in San Francisco, New York, Lisbon, Delhi and Singapore.

Clarke will be based in London, where he will oversee the company’s financial management, manage investor relations, and help to drive organic and inorganic global expansion. He will be instrumental in optimising Onfido’s operations as the rapidly-growing company continues to scale both in the UK and across new territories.

David Clarke said:
“It’s an exciting time to be joining Onfido. Solving identity verification is a truly global problem, and it’s the ambition and scale of its vision that makes Onfido such an invigorating team to be a part of. There’s a powerful sense of momentum behind Onfido at the moment, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Onfido’s co-founder and COO, Eamon Jubbawy, said:
“We’ve spent the past six years building products to solve online identity. Having established ourselves as the global leader in our space, we were in a position to bring David - one of the world’s most respected CFOs - onto our team. We’re privileged that he decided to join us on our journey and have exciting plans ahead.”.”

Today’s news follows a $30m Series C investment in Onfido in September 2017. The funding round, led by Crane Venture Partners with participation from Microsoft Ventures, Salesforce Ventures and existing backers, is being used for international expansion and to build out the company’s 150-strong team and product offering.
