MCI, Inc. (MCIP) today announced that Reuters, the global information company, has extended its contract with MCI to monitor Reuters' global enterprise network providing early warning threat identification and detection capabilities.

With extended surveillance over its global network, Reuters will be able to enhance its visibility into the threat management landscape and better safeguard its key corporate sites worldwide.

Under terms of the new three-year deal, MCI will continue to monitor Reuters' managed firewall and network-based intrusion detection devices located at sites in the United States, Europe and Asia. Reuters plans to deploy additional intrusion detection and intrusion prevention devices to meet its stringent security objectives.

"Our network-based real-time security alert service is a critical component of Reuters' overall security management framework," said Chris Sharp, vice president of NetSec Security Services for MCI. "Leveraging our expansive geographic reach, Reuters can take advantage of our global threat identification and early warning systems so that viruses and other threats are stopped before they reach the enterprise border."

"MCI brings a wealth of security expertise and intelligence to the table both at the Internet backbone and enterprise network level, which is crucial for a global organization like Reuters," said Simon Riggs, Global Head of IT Security Operations, Reuters. "With early threat detection intelligence, we can help mitigate an enterprise-wide problem before a network threat affects our employees, customers or partners."
