Precise Biometrics AB, a Swedish based company that develops and sells world-leading, user-friendly biometric security solutions using fingerprints and smart cards, has hired Ulf Hägglund as Vice President Marketing.

Ulf Hägglund will also be a new member of the management group. At the same time, one of the company's founders and vice President, Mårten Öbrink, will gradually be leaving his operative role in the company early next year.

In the company's assessment, intensified market efforts will be crucial for future business, as interest in smart ID-cards continues to grow and development is being driven by rising demand for multibiometric passports and national ID-cards with biometry. Many such projects have been initiated worldwide, and Precise Biometrics is bidding on many of them, together with various partners.

"Sales in the field of biometrics is long-term and time-consuming," says Christer Bergman, President and CEO of Precise Biometrics, "and it's essential that we expand our marketing resources as decisions are about to be taken on many of these projects. Ulf Hägglund has the competence and experience needed for us to move our market positions forward."

Ulf has many years of experience from ID-card projects, primarily in the smart-card segment. He also serves as a delegate within the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), which standardizes electronic passports. In addition, Ulf is a member of SIS/ISO, the organization also working with standardization within the field of biometrics.

"Precise Biometrics is well positioned and has huge business opportunities on the market for electronic passports and national ID-cards," says Mårten Öbrink. "The company is right on the frontline with its Precise Match-on-Card technology, which has become a de facto standard. I'm proud to have been a part of Precise Biometrics' development and success, but it feels like the right time for me to start tackling some new challenges."

"We deeply regret Mårten's departure from his operative role at Precise Biometrics. The fact that a founder of a cutting-edge company like ours would be looking for new challenges is a natural step, and I fully respect Mårten's decision," adds Christer Bergman. "Over the years, we've had very close and rewarding cooperation, and we're currently looking at a possibility to have Mårten connected with the company also in the future."
