Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (NASDAQ:HBAN) and Cardtronics LP have closed a deal that adds 77 Huntington-branded ATMs to CVS/pharmacy stores in Cincinnati, Dayton and Springfield, Ohio and Northern Kentucky.

Installations were completed in October, bringing Huntington's total ATM coverage to over 900 machines. Huntington-branded ATMs in CVS/pharmacy stores will be surcharge-free to Huntington customers, as are Huntington's banking office ATMs.

"We are always looking for ways to expand our ATM network to make it easier for customers to bank with Huntington," said Lori Murray, Huntington's retail distribution and operations manager. "By working with CVS/pharmacy, one of today's leading retailers, and Cardtronics, the largest ATM operator in the world, we've created an additional convenience for our customers that exemplifies our company's vision of delivering the best service."

Cardtronics manages more than 26,000 ATMs across the United States, 10,000 of which are positioned in major merchant locations such as CVS/pharmacy.

Jack Antonini, Cardtronics President & CEO said, "Branding our ATMs allows Huntington to increase its number of convenient, surcharge-free customer touch points without the cost and risk of brick-and-mortar branches. Huntington's customers are better served on a minimal investment while CVS/pharmacy customers gain quick access to cash; it's a win-win situation for all parties involved."

Branding Cardtronics ATMs is an excellent means for banks to increase their footprint while improving both customer service and convenience. In turn, the merchant experiences increased foot traffic and an enhanced customer loyalty due to reputable banks attaching their name to the ATM. Executing branding partnerships with financial institutions across the country is an integral part of the strategy Cardtronics is employing as part of its national ATM partnership with CVS/pharmacy.
