Ingenico Group (Euronext:FR0000125346 - ING), the global leader in seamless payment, today announced team Kairos as the winners of its Money20/20 Hackathon challenge.

Tasked with developing new commerce experiences using Ingenico Group’s in-store, online and mobile SDKs, 450 developers created over 100 projects to compete for a chance to win a number of different prize packages.

Participants were given 24 hours to develop new solutions that integrate with Ingenico Group’s next-generation payment terminals, its online payment platform or its mobile point of sale (mPOS) card readers. Developers were given access to Ingenico Group’s SDKs to create new commerce experiences in one or more of these areas:

  • Merchant or consumer-facing business apps that run directly on Ingenico Group’s payment terminals
  • Cross-border or domestic e-commerce checkout experiences for web or mobile
  • iOS or Android mobile apps to accept card-present payment with Ingenico Group’s Moby/3000 Bluetooth mPOS card readers

Candidates were judged based on the simplicity, creativity, impact and design of their projects respectively. The grand prize went to team Kairos, which developed an application that allows for invisible multi-merchant payment processing on Telium TETRA smart terminals. The example team Kairos gave during their pitch highlighted the ability to pay for parking without needing to leave a restaurant during dinner. The winning team was also able to present their solution as part of Money20/20’s StartupPitch180 program that provides companies with a forum to showcase their leading-edge innovation in front of an audience of investors, media and other ecosystem participants.

Team Kairos was awarded the opportunity to fly around the world for a six-night all-expenses paid trip to Europe, a $500 Amazon gift card and a three-month mentorship from Ingenico Group’s business experts to help launch their idea. They were also awarded $5,000 in prize money as a top 10 winner by the Money20/20 Hackathon judges for their application.

In addition to team Kairos winning Ingenico Group’s challenge and being named a top 10 winner, team hovershop, which used Ingenico Group’s Telium TETRA and Ingenico Connect SDKs as part of their contextual augmented reality shopping experience, was also named a top 5 winner, earning them $20,000.

“We were impressed by the creativity and level of talent that we witnessed during this year’s Money20/20 Hackathon,” said Michel Léger, EVP Innovation for Ingenico Group. “Given today’s rapidly evolving payments landscape, it’s important to provide developers the access and resources to make the payments integration process simple and effective. Ingenico Group is committed to providing developers with these resources and we look forward to helping our winners bring their innovative ideas to life.”
