Nationwide Building Society has launched a powerful new mobile banking app, designed based on customer feedback, which gives users far more power in their pocket when it comes to their money.

A raft of improvements have been made to create a comprehensive service, giving users the ability to manage multiple aspects of their finances.

The new app allows customers to manage their money across a range of devices as the display will automatically adapt and change to suit the size of the screen being used, from tablets to smartphones content is optimised providing a rich experience to members. Those who have Apple devices can also now log on using the latest biometric technology as the new app is enabled with Touch ID – the fingerprint recognition feature operated by Apple.

The Society plans to introduce a series of developments and additional functionality over the coming months as the new banking app provides the foundations for continuous improvements which will help customers manage their money on the go, anywhere and at any time.

Managing your money:
Current account and credit card customers will be able to trawl back through 15 months of transactions on the refreshed app, compared to one month on the previous version, while a new search function allows customers to locate transaction by name, amount or location. Users can also monitor their finances at a glance as a new cash flow snapshot facility allows them to select a specific time period to compare how much money has come in and out of their accounts.

New settings:
The app now allows customers to update their settings, including managing overdrafts, updating personal details, arranging text alerts and even choosing to receive paperless statements. And those who need assistance can also now access ‘customer help’ without the need to log in to the app first. Customers can also easily, quickly and securely apply for new products from the app, with pre-populated information provided, so some accounts can be opened in just a couple of taps.

Old favourites:
While much new functionality has been added to the app, other developments which have proved popular with customers have remained. This includes Quick Balance, which allows customers to check how much money they have without the need to log in. On an average day, over 105,000 customers use this option. Additionally, the Impulse Saver functionality will also remain on the home screen. This enables customers to save up to £100 to their linked savings account without logging in. Since this was launched in June 2014, more than £18,500,000 million has been saved.

The new app is available now from the App Store and Google Play Store, and existing App users can now download the upgrade.

Barnaby Davis, Nationwide’s Divisional Director Group Retail Strategy, said: “As a mutual, Nationwide is owned by and run for the benefit of its members. This is why when designing our new mobile banking app we listened to their views and have integrated many of the developments they said they wanted. But this has not come at the expense of any of the previous functionality that they already get real benefit from. What we have is a very comprehensive banking app, which works beautifully across a range of devices, with the display automatically adapting to provide optimized content for different screen sizes.

“Our customers increasingly want to do their banking on the move and we believe the new app puts customers in the driving seat when it comes to their money. New dynamics such as fingerprint recognition, deep searches and the ability for customers to view their cash flows will give people more control at a time that suits them.

“We hope our customers get real benefit from using our new Mobile Banking App and we continue to introduce new improvements and ways to make managing their money easier over the coming months.”
