As part of its expansion strategy in Mexico, The Western Union Company (WU), a leader in global payment services, today announced an agreement with Walmart de Mexico y Centroamérica to offer international money transfer services under the Western Union, Vigo and Orlandi Valuta brands throughout Mexico.

Customers will be able to receive their money transfer transactions across 1,266 Bodega Aurrera, Mi Bodega Aurrera, Walmart, Superama and Suburbia stores in all of Mexico’s 31 states and in Mexico City, during store hours, 365 days a year. The companies expect to activate services during the third quarter of 2016.

Odilon Almeida, President, Americas and European Union said: "We are delighted to continue expanding our presence across the globe, in alliance with some of the largest—and most reputable—banks, postal services and retailers in the world, to bring our customers a trusted network of Agents to enable money transfer services. Our expertise in the money transfer industry, coupled with Walmart’s wide network presence in Mexico will offer a powerful value proposition for our customers.”

Western Union analysis shows that speed, convenience and the urgent flow of resources to family and loved ones are important to both send and receive consumers. Western Union has operated in Mexico for the past two decades and currently has a network of nearly 13,600 Western Union, Vigo and Orlandi Valuta branded Agent locations in the country. The company has just announced its money transfer services can now be directed from the US to almost 100% of Mexican bank accounts.
