Barak Fund Management, one of the leading specialist Africa-focused alternative fund management companies, has chosen TFG Financial Systems to provide it with TFG Complete, TFG’s fully integrated middle office and risk management system.

TFG will be supporting two new Barak funds, investing in the commodities and forex markets respectively.

Barak is a specialist in commodity-focused investment opportunities and trade finance across the sub-Sahara African region. Based in Mauritius (with the Advisory team sitting in South Africa), Barak invests across 30 African countries, with particular focus on the soft commodities and food product-related sectors.

Lourens Harmse, Fund Manager of the new Barak Sarafu African FX Fund, said: “We chose TFG Complete because we needed a totally integrated system that could support our new funds with real time portfolio analysis, P&L, risk management and NAV production, including shadow NAVs. TFG have built a system here that can address these demands while still delivering a high level of straight through processing and a ‘total picture’ portfolio overview of portfolio risks.”

TFG Complete will also provide Barak with real time valuation, risk reporting, scenario analyses and stress testing. The browser-based system supports a range of asset classes, including fixed income and OTC instruments. TFG Complete’s straight through processing facility lets managers streamline middle office functions in a fully integrated fashion.

Barry Fenwick, CEO of TFG Financial Systems, added: “We are very excited to be chosen by Barak to help them with their new ventures. TFG’s ability to support managers who want to invest across multiple asset classes and markets means we can work with fast growing fund managers who are expanding their businesses and seeking the technology solutions that can help them to do this cost-effectively.”

TFG Complete is being enhanced on a continuous basis to meet the evolving risk management requirements of the alternative investment industry. Recent improvements have included user-defined valuation models and integration with Swap Execution Facilities. TFG continues to add new prime brokers and fund administrators to its offering as its client base expands.
